It's small, seems insignificant, but this lighweight adaptor
Røde SC3
is made for big things!
It can convert TRRS format to TRS!
It is incomprehensible, isn't it ? It might be, so, extremely performant! ^_^
Most seriously, you have a microphone for cellphone, smartphone, tablet with a male minijack 3.5mm TRRS plug, like the Lavalier microphone Røde SmartLav+, for example, you can now connect to the SC3 female adaptor side, and plug the SC3 male side TRS 3.5mm plug onto your camcorder or DSLR mic plug.
A very useful adaptor!

But what means the acronymes TRS and TRRS ?
TRS : Tip Ring Sleeve
TRRS : Tip Ring Ring Sleeve
It describe the different parts of the plug. Those parts will depend of the manufacturers, it is not always the same function or order. Otherwise it would be too easy, no ? :)
For the microphones, usually, TRS or TRRS describe the left and right channel, the microphone channel and the ground.
For the Røde SC3, here is the TRRS and TRS sockets configurations :

We can read here or there
The SC3 is a high-quality shielded adaptor, designed to allow the smartLav+ to connect to 3.5mm TRS devices such as cameras and audio recorders. The gold-plated contacts are colour coded, with grey indicating the TRRS input.
